What You Can Use In Vertical Blinds

March 16th, 2010

A number of different options can be used for vertical blinds in your home. Different choices can be made with many materials. They should be working with other things in mind. These include the size of what you use and the safety measures you use with it.

A good choice to use is vinyl blinds. These are some of the most popular options to use in that they are flexible and smooth. It is also easy to clean these window blinds without too much work. They also do not scratch with ease like some other materials would. Various colors can work with vinyl blinds too.

The use of fake wood is also popular for vertical blinds. These window blinds work with PVC and other hard materials to create natural looking blinds. They can come in colors similar to that of other fake wood materials. This helps to get them to mix well with other items. It is also very easy to clean these blinds and they will not warp.

Another popular option to use for your blinds is Mylar. It works as a polyester film. It will create a slight shine in an area when installed. This can be useful for helping to add detail to any type of room.

You can even use perforated blinds to let some light in. These are window blinds that work with microscopic holes in each panel. These holes are ones that will work to get some light through. The light will be mild and will not be very intense through these blinds. Thanks to this these blinds can work in office windows and other smaller areas.

Various things should be seen with all of these options for vertical blinds. It helps to see how these window blinds can roll along. Some can work in a left to right rolling form or the other way around. Some can work by being pulled from the center.

The size that you use is also important to see. The panel length from top to bottom is important to watch for. The blinds should be able to fit the vertical length of the windows without too much excess length. The panels can be thick in different levels as well. Thicker options will keep a greater amount of light out.

Finally there is the safety involved. If a string is used for controlling the blinds the string should be tucked up high in the blinds. This is to help keep a child or pet from choking on the string. A control wand can be used on many blinds to correct this concern. The wand should still be high up enough to where a child will not try to pull on it.

These are all things to watch for in vertical blinds. These window blinds can work with many builds. All of these builds can be handled with different types of sizes and mechanisms. Each can work with its own benefits too.

Both style and protection are major factors that should be considered when in search of blinds, and finding both protection and style in one set of window blinds is simple!

The purpose for vertical blinds has changed over the years. In the past blinds were made of just metal and wood. These materials offered great protection from the sun however they weren’t very impressive in terms of style. People who prefer simplicity may have made this their first option before selecting any other form of dressing for a window. These blinds will not take up much time and are easy to clean.

Another kind of blind that offers protection and easy maintenance would be paper window blinds. This kind of blind is easy to clean and can be styled with a curtain. The window blinds may be used for style and will be quite satisfying if coordinated with like colors. Style will definitely overshadow privacy because with this blind one can easily see through the window. Most of the time people who decide to go with this blind are aware of its inability to block out sun and offer privacy.

Vertical Louvers are made of canvas and come in either synthetic fiber or wood. Louver blinds can be adjusted anyway possible making them way more versatile then others. They work wonderfully blocking the sun and do really well on larger windows.

Venetian blinds are highly adjustable and can appear virtually invisible when pulled in certain direction. Venetian blinds block out sunlight and look great in an office but can be used in a family room. The window blinds are made of either cedar or pine.

Vertical Blinds Have Two Different Mounting Styles

March 15th, 2010

If you have decided to buy some vertical blinds make sure from the beginning what will be needed before you go out and purchase these blinds for your home.

Before purchasing your vertical blinds it is always a smart thing to know what the exact measurement is of your window or door. Then you should be able to find out if they are standard or need to be special ordered

Once your vertical blinds are in and you have brought them home for installation make sure you have specific tools and hardware items in order to be able to successfully install your window blinds.

Important tools that will be needed to install your blinds are the following: measuring tape that can be metal or made of wood, a screw driver that has a flat head, some finishing nails and a hammer, a drill that has what is called a hex head bit that is one quarter inch in size, a level to make sure everything is straight and even, scissors for trimming of cord if needed, wall anchors for dry wall and two other drill bits one that is one sixteenth and the other being three sixteenth of a inch you also will need to have a pencil handy.

The blind hardware should be wall brackets, mounting screws, mounting clips, nuts, bolts, louvers and headrail, chain with a clip and a cord with a weight.

There are two common types of mounts for vertical blinds one would be an inside mount the other outside. Make sure that you know which type you have before starting your installation.

You will not need the mounting brackets if you are installing blinds that have inside mounts. Remove the brackets from your blinds, keeping the screws and throw the brackets away. You then need to keep the mounting clips for the window blinds and tighten the screws.

Now you are going to need mark both the valance and the area around the window. To mark the frame you need to hold the valance up over the frame itself and make sure it is the width of the valance that you mark. Where you have marked the width make sure to measure out an inch from the wall and make marks, this becomes the depth. Then you will need to center it by putting the clip over the third groove, which is about four inches from the end.

Put valance up and line the back of it with the marks for the depth. After this drill holes where the mounting marks have been made. Remember to use wall anchors if you are hanging the blinds on dry wall. Now, screw the screws into the clips, valance and the windowsill.

Now you are ready to snap the headrail into place. After you have done that you can place a screwdriver between the headrail and the release tab to drop the blinds.

Outside mounting vertical blinds are done just a little differently than the inside mounting type. Start by measuring the length of your louvers and marking the height on your wall by adding two inches to the overall length of the lovers. Now you can center the headrail of the blinds by placing the headrail where you have your wall markings, you will now need to make a two inch mark that is made about four inches in from each end. Make sure marks for the brackets are evenly spaced.

Now hold the bracket sup to the two-inch marks and mark where the mounting holes should go. Then drill the holes making sure to install wall anchors if you are drilling into dry wall. Now you will take the mounting brackets and screw them in securing using two screws for each.

Before snapping in the headrail make sure that all of the screws are screwed in tight, then you can add the headrail. Now take your screwdriver and place it between the headrail and the release tab.

You need to attach each louver individually to what is called the stem slot. Push the louver up into the slot and then pull back down securing the louver. Note that if the louvers are cloth; make sure that all hem sides face the same direction.

For safety purposes the cord should have a cord weight fastened to it and secured to the wall. For the inside mount the cord should be fastened towards the back of the sill.

If the cord is too long you can adjust it and tie a knot where you want it to end and then cut off the excess cord and discard.

The aluminum ones are perfect for room which tend to overheat and can save a bundle on your electricity bills. Fabric ones are very popular for people who want to get the most out of the natural lighting of the day. These high quality window blinds are often made with woven materials and can be quite durable. Solar Shades Offer Bonus Advantages In Times Of Recession

March 6th, 2010

The window shade industry offers many traditional choices that are still popular amongst today’s consumers. But there are many products that have been introduced recently that provide consumers with additional benefits that are much appreciated in this time of recession. One product that provides consumers with extra (or bonus) benefits is solar shades.

The bonus benefits of solar shades:

1. The reduction of glare: this can be especially beneficial in rooms that are frequently used for TV or movie watching (movie rooms, living rooms, etc.)

2. Temperature control: solar shades decrease the amount of heat lost in winter and the amount of heat entry in summer.

3. Energy efficient features of solar shades result in energy bill reduction. Depending upon the situation already present in the home or building owners can benefit from drastically decreased energy bills.

4. UVA and UVB light is blocked by solar shades. This is a definite health benefit offered by solar shades.

5. In times of recession there is one thing that is always a priority and that’s affordability. And solar shades are definitely affordable.

6. The cost of the product is eventually covered by the energy savings. This makes the solar shades more than just affordable; some might say that after a certain amount of time the product is free.

When it comes to the sun’s heat…solar shades block 80 to 90%. The shades also come in a wide selection of colors so they can accent almost any decor. They fulfill all the basic needs that ensure consumers will continue to purchase window coverings and in addition…they also block harmful rays of the sun.

In times of recession consumers absolutely appreciate energy savings. And in addition to the obvious savings offered by the energy efficient qualities the product blocks the harmful rays of the sun from furniture; extending the life of interior decor. This decreases the amount of money that is required to keep interior design/furniture maintained because sun damage is avoided. Solar shades are an especially appropriate option for rooms that see heavy use and rooms that contain expensive or sentimental pieces of furniture.

The Beauty Of Faux Wood Window Blinds

March 5th, 2010

Faux wood window blinds and real wood blinds…most consumers can’t even tell the difference without some very close study. The actual makeup of faux wood window blinds often involves small amounts of real wood, but the product themselves are not “real” wood in full. Visually the differences between the two popular products are not at all obvious without close inspection, but upon studying the specifications of the two different products their different advantages become quite clear.

Affordability is one consideration when considering faux wood window blinds and real wood blinds. Faux wood products in general cost substantially less. Another basic difference is the response to moisture. Wood blinds will obviously not stand up to moisture very well. Faux wood window blinds on the other hand withstand moisture very well. Some designers enjoy the “warmth” that real wood products add to an interior space. But because most consumers can’t tell the difference between real wood and faux wood initially this advantage is questionable.

Faux wood window products are heavier, but real wood blinds are stronger. Faux wood window blinds that have high foam content should be avoided. Foam blinds aren’t sturdy enough to stand up to daily use and can sag over time. In addition they require additional support strings detracting from the look of the blinds.

Real wood is typically recognized for its many design advantages. They add “warmth” (as mentioned before) and they also offer a noticeably wide array of colors and stains. Faux wood window blinds offer a less extensive number of options and they also can sometimes yellow with time.

Faux wood window blinds offer the very big advantage of a substantially lower price tag. They also deal well with moisture. You can get them wet. This is a drastic advantage when it comes to certain situations (bathrooms, kitchens, etc.) and cleaning. Faux wood window blinds can be easily wiped down with a damp rag.

In extreme situations faux wood blinds can be removed from their installed position for extensive cleaning. If the blinds have collected a thick amount of dirt or grime they will benefit greatly from being sprayed down with water. It’s not difficult. They can be laid out in an appropriate outdoor area and a household hose can spray them down adequately. They can be carefully towel-dried after cleaning so that they can be re-hung immediately.

Wood blinds, on the other hand, cannot undergo similar treatment. They should be dusted regularly with a dry feather duster. They cannot be sprayed off of they become extremely dirty. They cannot be consistently cleaned with a damp cloth without undergoing damage. They cannot withstand the slight moisture of typical cleaning products. Moisture can have an almost immediate negative on wood blinds in some cases.

There are advantages to both real wood and faux wood window blinds. Regular maintenance and cleaning increases the function of both. The main differences are the price, the design possibilities and the ability to deal with moisture. Which product is better just depends upon the specific situation.

How To Install Interior Window Shutters With Outside Mounts

March 5th, 2010

Privacy in your home from prying eyes on the outside has always been important to people. There are a variety of different types of window treatments that people use to keep that privacy. They use curtains, drapes, blinds and shades. These are great to keep out the sun on hot days as well as give your home privacy when wanted. Probably one of the least used type would be window shutters for the inside of the house. Most people think of the outside of the house when it comes to shutters.

There is no reason that you can not use window shutters to add privacy. Not only do they provide great privacy but they also add a unique elegance to the room as well. Depending upon what style you get, they can add a lot more to your window treatment than other types, especially blinds.

If you come to the decision that you might like to try to add shutters to the inside of your windows, below you will find easy steps that will make your job of installing your shutters a lot easier.

There are a variety of different types of things that you will need in order for you to complete this project. You will need the shutters of course, the hardware that comes with your shutters, a saw, screwdriver, paint or stain, polyurethane, paint brush, tape measure. Depending upon what kind of shutters you get will determine the materials that you will need to be able to complete the project. The ones mentioned here are the most commonly required items.

Before you begin you need to decide whether or not you want the window shutters to be installed on the inside of the window or if you would rather have them as outside mounts. Since the window frames are rarely perfectly square, probably the easier route would be to use an outside mount.

We will go with the outside mount here for easier installation, this will take less time and gives you more flexibility with regards to how you hang the shutters. With outside mounts you can hang shutters vertically or horizontally.

The first thing that you will do is mount your hanging strips along each side of the frame of the window. Now you will take the shutter panels and hinge them together with face mount hinges that are supplied by the company that made the shutters. Make sure you have a spacer between each of the shutter panels so that you will be able to close the shutters easily.

Now you will take the hinges and connect them to the shutters, make sure to follow the shutters manufacturers instructions on how to place the hinges on the shutters. You will now want to make sure to mark holes on the hanging strips so that you will know where to connect the hinges at. Once you have done that, you can go ahead and drill holes for the screws for the hinges.

The final installation step is to actually attach the shutters to the hanging strips.

Final note: If you decide to buy unfinished shutters, it is advisable that you paint or stain them before you install them. And if you have louvered shutters it will be a lot less time consuming and easier to use spray paint for these types of shutters.

Whether you are looking for some privacy or a way to spruce up your windows, we offer a wide selection of blinds, draperies, and shutters Toronto to match your household comfort needs. Since 1981, we are dedicated to delivering excellent service and affordable products. Our customers deserve the best.

March 4th, 2010

During a recession there aren\’t many homeowners looking to make big financial purchases. Even those consumers who had planned to upgrade their homes in the near future have typically changed their plans or made other plans.

To avoid further credit obligations most homeowners are sticking it out in their current residences. And on top of that the current credit restrictions are guaranteeing that a large portion of Americans are sticking it out in their current residences. They\’d have a hard time getting credit approval for another home purchase.

So what do homeowners do in reaction to staying in a home they were planning on upgrading? Usually…they upgrade. What do they upgrade? They tend to start with their blinds and shades; which is a perfect reaction.

Drastic change and affordable pricing makes updating blinds and shades the perfect home improvement. It adds value to the home, increases the safety of the home (due to recent increases in safety regulations in the industry).

if consumers haven\’t been out and about in the industry in a while they will find that there are a plethora of options out there that will surprise them. There are several points to consider while shopping for blinds and shades:

1. Faux vs. wood is often an argument, but it really shouldn\’t be. It\’s basic. Faux products are better for kitchens and bathrooms because they handle moisture well. Wood adds warmth to a room and they\’re also stronger and lighter which makes them a better choice for many even though they don\’t handle moisture well.

2. Energy savings products decrease the carbon footprints in almost any household. The monthly savings achieved through decreased energy usage typically pay for the cost of the blinds and shades within several months to a year. So they\’re not only desirable for their green advantages, but for the cost effectiveness.

3. Home improvement doesn\’t have to be a DIY project. Updating blinds and shades is a complete home improvement. It not only drastically updates and improves the look and feel of the home, but it adds to the value of the home substantially.

Installing updated blinds and shades will result in an overall increase in energy efficiency in nearly any home because of recent advances that have affected both the design and manufacturing methods that are in use in the industry. Safety is increased, energy efficiency is increased, and energy bills will be decreased. And that\’s a fabulous benefit in today\’s economy.

Tips On How To Install Mini Blinds

March 2nd, 2010

Setting up mini blinds is not very difficult at all. The very first thing which you ought to complete is measure. This can help you determine the location of the mini blinds. You might additionally have to decide if you need them mounted on the inside or the outside of the casement. Each one of these choices gives its specific distinct look. An inside mount would give a further custom-made look, an outside mount will help you manipulate the lighting better.

So, firstly you ought to measure. Should you be mounting within the frame, you\’ll need to take a measurement in the width between the areas at which the brackets would go: top, middle, bottom. Ensure to jot down those down and set them somewhere secure. Do not simply write it on the back of a receipt and put it into your pocket! Subsequent to measuring the width, you\’ll wish to measure the measurement lengthwise of the inside casing. Be sure to leave one full inch of even surface on the inside on the casing so as to attach the brackets.

However, should you be mounting onto the outside, you have to measure that width instead. You must hang your mini blinds on the outside of the casing when there\’s less than one full inch of level surface on the inside, as mentioned previous. This measurement must simply overlap your casement by no less than 1.5 inches on both side.

Tips on how to Install

1. Decide on whether or not you want to the casement mounted on the inside or the outside. Measure your window as described former.

2. Ensure to buy the best sized blinds. Next detach the window stop at the top of the window in the window casing.

3. Utilizing 2-3 screws for every bracket, screw each bracket (which come with your blinds) to the sides of the window casing at the top.

4. Test out the bracket you\’ve gotten mounted by lifting the cord on the right as the wand is at the left.

5. When the mini blinds are in place, you\’ll have to secure the caps over the brackets.

6. Check for distance end to end of the blinds–they might be really lengthy. If they are, remove some of the slats at the bottom, This could help them become the correct height.

Sun Blocking Blinds – The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Every Sort Of Blinds

March 1st, 2010

You would definitely agree that every kind of blinds offers some degree of blackout option. Some only meet that description in the sense that it blocks out a percentage of the sunshine coming into the area. Let\’s look in the different kinds of blinds and judge the performance of each.

Vertical blinds hardly bring any change within the quantity of light coming to a room. The reason being may be the way they are designed. Let\’s think about the situation of a window of size 100cmsx100cms that has a slat of 89mm. There will usually be 14 slats of fabric on a vertical blind that dimension, each slat overlaps the slat next to it allowing a particular amount of light to come via. Having known that there are 14 slots and every permits some quantity of gentle to get into, there would be substantial amount of incoming light. Hardly the most effective option even if the fabric itself is electrical outage.

The state of affairs isn\’t so significantly different within the case of Venetian Blinds and Wooden Venetian Blinds, which again have a definite number of overlapping slats that allow some gentle to get into. Though the design of normal Venetian blinds causes the slats to close tightly, Wooden Venetian perhaps have the worst style to block light because of the thickness of wood that leaves a larger gap between two slats.

Roman blinds are probably the second best type of blinds for a electrical outage. They have the dual advantage of being stylish and really functional also. The lining used on the back of the main fabric provides the blackout function, therefore not interfering using the style. They also fit the tightest to the recess where the blind is fitted, preventing hardly any light coming in at the sides.

Despite their providing the largest option as far as fabrics are concerned, the style of roller blinds facilitates a lot of gentle to enter the room. Because of the dimension of the brackets that hold the blinds, the width from the material needs to become narrower than the width of the blind by at least 33mm, a gap wide sufficient for gentle to enter in.

In conclusion the best choice turns out to become Cassette Roller Blind. They typically comprise of the roller blind fitted into an aluminum frame having a coating of white powder. The frame fits snugly in the window recess and the material providing the blocking out of any gentle. Simply because the design of the frame doesn\’t let in any light from the sides or its best and bottom, the blackout is achieved.
