The pillow has a history that goes a very long way back, in Ancient Egypt. This item was also found in the tombs of some pharos. Some of the traditional Chinese pillows used to be made out of wood, stone, metal and sometimes porcelain. The stone pillow could also be encountered in Ancient Egypt. But in our days things have changed a lot and now the pillows are filled with feathers, down feathers, foam or synthetic fills. Something else that was used to fill the pillows were the straws. However, people used this material less and less because it was quite uncomfortable to sleep on it and also it could cause serious allergies.

There are many types of pillows that can be found on the market. Some examples could be the normal bed pillow – that can be found in many sizes and shapes and that is very popular but also there are orthopedic pillows and decorative pillows. The orthopedic pillow has medicinal purposes. For example, it can be used for those that have neck problems or those with lumbar problems. These pillows are created in order to suit multiple needs.

A pillow that can be used for more than one reason except that for which it was created is the decorative pillow. For instance, when you taking a nap on the sofa you are bound to use one of those pillows to rest you head on.
