Vertical Blinds For Every Taste

March 13th, 2010

Vertical blinds can match everything in your home. No matter how formal the room is, or how casual, you’ll be able to find the perfect style and color.

Vertical window blinds have been around for over sixty years and they have never lost their popularity. When they were first introduced, they made a major style improvement in many urban and suburban homes as wives by the hundreds threw out their old roller shades and installed these new blinds that looked better and allowed more light to shin through.

They come in many materials from plastic to bamboo, but the plastics are the most common. They are the lowest price and the easiest to clean. Households with pets and kids will usually choose these, if only in common areas and the kids’ rooms.

Cleaning is easy. A regular dusting with specially designed long arm dusters makes it simple. For dirt, grime, and even simple finger prints, clean up is a breeze with a few squirts of any common household cleaner, or even a damp cloth. Staining is virtually impossible.

Expensive custom made vertical window blinds tend to have material attached to a plastic backing. The material is something attached before it is delivered. If the product has been ordered along with professional installation, final assembly might not occur until the installers are preparing to put them up.

Any blinds with real material will need special cleaning solution. Some just can’t be cleaned well at all. Many come with their own bottle of solution. Before trying to remove dirt or spots, try a little on an inconspicuous area just in case the color does come out. Always ask the store where you bought them for cleaning tips. Almost all vertical window blinds in this category come with cleaning instructions and if you don’t follow these instructions, you may be voiding the warranty.

Depending on the size of the window (or door), you will usually have options on how you want them to open. For narrower openings you most likely will be limited to choices of a right or left draw, and the choice of a pulley cord or a wand (that thing that opens and closes each slat to control how much light is let in.) Larger areas such as patio doors will probably allow you to have a middle opening. In other words, when you pull them to open, they will come apart in the middle instead of one of the far reaching corners.

Many come with valances. For blinds that are being installed ‘inside’ the window frame, the valance is identical to the rest of the blinds and serves no other function than to cover the ugly top where the draw chain is seen. For blinds that are installed externally from the window frame, the valances will coordinate with the color scheme of the vertical window blinds themselves. In any case, you can always put up a valance of your choice.

If you are considering vertical window blinds for the first time, you might want to have them installed. These are quite different from hanging curtains and shades and frequently you will need odd tools and plenty of help in getting them adjusted correctly.

If you want to find savings on about vertical blinds, then visit Jerrikat Jennison’s site for beautiful and high quality window blinds for your needs.

Looking Into Diverse Curtains And Window Treatments

March 12th, 2010

Today’s market offers such a wide variety of curtains and window treatments making it often difficult to make a choice. Many of the new home designs, such as Urban Chic have no curtains at all, preferring a wide, open look. Others have drapes or lacy curtains depending on which room is being decorated. With the many styles, colors and materials on the market today the only problem might be the lack of imagination. With the assistance of the many decorating articles it is easy to find what would be appropriate for the space involved.

Curtains and window treatments are paramount in any home. They can open the rooms to the outdoors and bring in sunshine and light. Even on a rainy or snowy day one can set back and enjoy the scenery. If one has very small windows these can be made to seem larger with the correct settings. With large windows an arrangement can be made to enhance their beauty. This is why it is so important to make the right selections when working with these items.

Some people who choose to have no curtains at all in certain rooms wish to allow the light from the windows to flood the room, making it light and cheery. This trend is much more common today than in previous years. In these cases care must be taken to be sure the window casings are properly painted or designed to match the room.

When planning a certain decor it is important to research, what type of curtains would be appropriate. Tuscan, for example, would be much different from curtains used in the Victorian Era. Urban Chic would, in most cases, require no curtains at all. Many decorating books are available, as well as the Internet, which can provide this information.

With aluminum frames, while very attractive, can cause heat loss and condensation. Wood frames, while retaining more heat, require periodic painting and require special treatment to resist moisture. Vinyl frames meet the requirements of less upkeep, easy maintenance and resistance to moisture. At the present time the new fiberglass frames seem to be the best frames on the market.

While a wooden frame would fit in very well and would retain heat, it requires constant painting and moisture resistant treatment. A vinyl unit has less upkeep and is easily maintained as well as retaining heat. An aluminum unit loses heat and has condensation while a fiberglass one, new to the market, meets all requirements for a good structure.

The type of window usually determines the avenue one wishes to take regarding the window decoration. If the window opens to the open air with a small or large opening probably no curtains at all would be considered with the exception of a roll up type, side panels or a valance. Outside screens are a must in these cases to keep insects from entering the room.

Whether re-doing a current home, doing a fix-r-upper, or building a new home curtains and window treatments need to receive major consideration. To provide beauty, as well as additional value, for the home this is the first thing anyone will notice upon viewing. The extra time and money involved will result in added benefits in the appearance and appreciation of work well done.

Choosing the best window treatments and curtains is fast and easy when you know where to go. Design with the style that you are searching for quickly when you select curtains and window treatments that are available today.

Consistent Cleaning Of Your Vinyl Mini Blinds

March 9th, 2010

Residences across America often feature window coverings (they increase privacy, allow for natural light control and increase energy savings). One of the most popular window coverings are vinyl mini blinds. Vinyl mini blinds are consistently popular because they are affordable.

Affordable products on today’s market can ensure that they’re the hottest commodity available. Another aspect of the window covering world that is given special importance during times of recession is maintenance and cleaning. Consumers recognize the benefit of increased life available through proper maintenance during times when budgets are tighter. Vinyl mini blinds are easy to clean. Just follow these simple steps.

1. Feather dust regularly. Most owners find this is easy and convenient and takes care of a majority of the problem.

2. If feather dusting isn’t quite doing the job owners should start with a damp rag. Running the rag gently along each slat from side to side will often remove any dirt, dust or debris. Make sure the rag isn’t wet; just damp.

3. If a damp rag process still leaves debris on the blinds it’s time to remove them from their installation position. Taking them down will allow owners to lay them out in an appropriate outdoor area to spray them off with a household hose for more intensive cleaning.

4. If taking the product outside for spraying isn’t possible owners can place them to soak in a bathtub full of warm water mixed with general cleanser. After soaking for a few minutes the blinds should be moved around in the water to allow any remaining dirt or debris to fall off.

5. And as a last resort owners can keep the car wash in mind. This would involve transporting wet blinds, but it’s worth it if it saves the vinyl mini blinds from being discarded because they can’t be cleaned. Owners can take advantage of the affordable high power water spraying devices at the car wash to really spray off the blinds.

Proper maintenance (regular dusting and light cleaning) should avoid the need for deep cleaning in the majority of situations. But many owners find it convenient that they have the possibility to remove the products from their installed positions in order to clean them more thoroughly if the need arises. Manufacturers have designed the product to ensure that the removal of the product for cleaning purposes is fairly easy and convenient.

Plantation Blinds…Classic And Timeless

March 9th, 2010

How many blinds out there can actually fulfill the claim of being classic? There really aren’t very many. But plantation blinds claim “classic” and they definitely have the right. And this isn’t classic meaning old. This is classic meaning perfect yesterday and perfect today and perfect tomorrow. They offer timeless design options/possibilities.

Plantation blinds are available in faux, composite or real wood varieties. The Faux products are vinyl, light weight and durable. Faux plantation blinds are also extremely affordable. Consumers on a tight budget often choose them over other varieties. Another advantage is that faux products are the best choice for moist or damp environments. They deal well with moisture. This also makes them much easier to clean.

Composite varieties are made of both wood and PVC mixed. So composite plantation blinds also deal well with moisture and are an appropriate choice for bathrooms and/or kitchens. It’s also more affordable than real wood varieties so it’s advantageous in the current economic climate as consumers keep their belts tight.

Plantation blinds are also available in real wood. These products are obviously made of 100% real wood. They are customarily light weight and come with their very own natural aesthetics. They take a stain very easily and provide the benefit of the natural grain showing through for design purposes.

Many designers and consumers both say that plantation blinds “make” a room. They add a very unique element to the design of an interior space. They’re high quality and timeless as well as durable. They are valued for their success at providing lifetime satisfaction amongst homeowners. Homeowners who have high quality plantation blinds installed rarely discover the need to update their window coverings.

Last, but not least consumers can enjoy the many color options available for plantation blinds. It’s another entire spectrum of design possibilities. The many options that are available with plantation blinds makes for a nearly unlimited amount of consumer satisfaction.

The Benefits Of Cellular Shades

March 8th, 2010

There are many, many options when consumers decide they’re in the market for window coverings. But when it comes to the extensive number of products…it makes some shoppers impatient. And being impatient results in their not even knowing about many options that could suit their needs very well. One option that is often missed is cellular shades.

Some of the defining characteristics that are noticeable about cellular shades follow:

1. Energy efficiency is definitely a defining characteristic of cellular shades. This means that they are capable of keeping more “bought air” inside the house. Homes stay warmer in the winter and they stay cooler in the summer when appropriate energy efficient window coverings are installed. The most energy efficient variety of cellular shades are those with bigger pleats and/or triple celled products.

2. Versatility is another important feature of cellular shades. A lot of consumers have a fixed idea in their minds about window coverings. That is the idea that to open the covering you pull the bottom of the shade up. With cellular shades this isn’t the case. They can be opened up or down. It’s called top down bottom up. This makes the options when attempting light control and privacy…extensive.

3. The honeycomb fabric of cellular shades makes them a popular choice for those who value extensive design options. There are hundreds of pattern and/or color options.

4. The honeycomb fabric also offers fabulous privacy options. It can provide anything from muted light to total darkness.

5. The cellular shades also offer another type of versatility: single celled shades, double celled shades or triple celled shades. When it comes to design tastes…preferences vary. But the triple celled shades are valued because they are the most energy efficient of the three.

6. Cellular shades also come in varying pleat sizes. Again…many consider this as a design element. But it is an important consideration in the energy efficiency of the product. The larger pleat sizes offer more energy efficiency.

Cellular shades are unarguably one of the most energy efficient window shades on the market. They’re probably one of the most energy efficient window coverings in general, as well. They’re sometimes called honeycomb shades due to the fabric used in manufacturing, but regardless of what name they are given by consumers…the important thing is to know the benefits of the product. Knowing the benefits of the product will lead consumers to the window covering products that most adequately suit their needs.

Solar Shades Offer Bonus Advantages In Times Of Recession

March 6th, 2010

The window shade industry offers many traditional choices that are still popular amongst today’s consumers. But there are many products that have been introduced recently that provide consumers with additional benefits that are much appreciated in this time of recession. One product that provides consumers with extra (or bonus) benefits is solar shades.

The bonus benefits of solar shades:

1. The reduction of glare: this can be especially beneficial in rooms that are frequently used for TV or movie watching (movie rooms, living rooms, etc.)

2. Temperature control: solar shades decrease the amount of heat lost in winter and the amount of heat entry in summer.

3. Energy efficient features of solar shades result in energy bill reduction. Depending upon the situation already present in the home or building owners can benefit from drastically decreased energy bills.

4. UVA and UVB light is blocked by solar shades. This is a definite health benefit offered by solar shades.

5. In times of recession there is one thing that is always a priority and that’s affordability. And solar shades are definitely affordable.

6. The cost of the product is eventually covered by the energy savings. This makes the solar shades more than just affordable; some might say that after a certain amount of time the product is free.

When it comes to the sun’s heat…solar shades block 80 to 90%. The shades also come in a wide selection of colors so they can accent almost any decor. They fulfill all the basic needs that ensure consumers will continue to purchase window coverings and in addition…they also block harmful rays of the sun.

In times of recession consumers absolutely appreciate energy savings. And in addition to the obvious savings offered by the energy efficient qualities the product blocks the harmful rays of the sun from furniture; extending the life of interior decor. This decreases the amount of money that is required to keep interior design/furniture maintained because sun damage is avoided. Solar shades are an especially appropriate option for rooms that see heavy use and rooms that contain expensive or sentimental pieces of furniture.

The Beauty Of Faux Wood Window Blinds

March 5th, 2010

Faux wood window blinds and real wood blinds…most consumers can’t even tell the difference without some very close study. The actual makeup of faux wood window blinds often involves small amounts of real wood, but the product themselves are not “real” wood in full. Visually the differences between the two popular products are not at all obvious without close inspection, but upon studying the specifications of the two different products their different advantages become quite clear.

Affordability is one consideration when considering faux wood window blinds and real wood blinds. Faux wood products in general cost substantially less. Another basic difference is the response to moisture. Wood blinds will obviously not stand up to moisture very well. Faux wood window blinds on the other hand withstand moisture very well. Some designers enjoy the “warmth” that real wood products add to an interior space. But because most consumers can’t tell the difference between real wood and faux wood initially this advantage is questionable.

Faux wood window products are heavier, but real wood blinds are stronger. Faux wood window blinds that have high foam content should be avoided. Foam blinds aren’t sturdy enough to stand up to daily use and can sag over time. In addition they require additional support strings detracting from the look of the blinds.

Real wood is typically recognized for its many design advantages. They add “warmth” (as mentioned before) and they also offer a noticeably wide array of colors and stains. Faux wood window blinds offer a less extensive number of options and they also can sometimes yellow with time.

Faux wood window blinds offer the very big advantage of a substantially lower price tag. They also deal well with moisture. You can get them wet. This is a drastic advantage when it comes to certain situations (bathrooms, kitchens, etc.) and cleaning. Faux wood window blinds can be easily wiped down with a damp rag.

In extreme situations faux wood blinds can be removed from their installed position for extensive cleaning. If the blinds have collected a thick amount of dirt or grime they will benefit greatly from being sprayed down with water. It’s not difficult. They can be laid out in an appropriate outdoor area and a household hose can spray them down adequately. They can be carefully towel-dried after cleaning so that they can be re-hung immediately.

Wood blinds, on the other hand, cannot undergo similar treatment. They should be dusted regularly with a dry feather duster. They cannot be sprayed off of they become extremely dirty. They cannot be consistently cleaned with a damp cloth without undergoing damage. They cannot withstand the slight moisture of typical cleaning products. Moisture can have an almost immediate negative on wood blinds in some cases.

There are advantages to both real wood and faux wood window blinds. Regular maintenance and cleaning increases the function of both. The main differences are the price, the design possibilities and the ability to deal with moisture. Which product is better just depends upon the specific situation.

Improving Your Blinds and Shades

March 4th, 2010

During a recession there aren\’t many homeowners looking to make big financial purchases. Even those consumers who had planned to upgrade their homes in the near future have typically changed their plans or made other plans.

To avoid further credit obligations most homeowners are sticking it out in their current residences. And on top of that the current credit restrictions are guaranteeing that a large portion of Americans are sticking it out in their current residences. They\’d have a hard time getting credit approval for another home purchase.

So what do homeowners do in reaction to staying in a home they were planning on upgrading? Usually…they upgrade. What do they upgrade? They tend to start with their blinds and shades; which is a perfect reaction.

Drastic change and affordable pricing makes updating blinds and shades the perfect home improvement. It adds value to the home, increases the safety of the home (due to recent increases in safety regulations in the industry).

if consumers haven\’t been out and about in the industry in a while they will find that there are a plethora of options out there that will surprise them. There are several points to consider while shopping for blinds and shades:

1. Faux vs. wood is often an argument, but it really shouldn\’t be. It\’s basic. Faux products are better for kitchens and bathrooms because they handle moisture well. Wood adds warmth to a room and they\’re also stronger and lighter which makes them a better choice for many even though they don\’t handle moisture well.

2. Energy savings products decrease the carbon footprints in almost any household. The monthly savings achieved through decreased energy usage typically pay for the cost of the blinds and shades within several months to a year. So they\’re not only desirable for their green advantages, but for the cost effectiveness.

3. Home improvement doesn\’t have to be a DIY project. Updating blinds and shades is a complete home improvement. It not only drastically updates and improves the look and feel of the home, but it adds to the value of the home substantially.

Installing updated blinds and shades will result in an overall increase in energy efficiency in nearly any home because of recent advances that have affected both the design and manufacturing methods that are in use in the industry. Safety is increased, energy efficiency is increased, and energy bills will be decreased. And that\’s a fabulous benefit in today\’s economy.

How To Repair Your Vertical Blinds

March 4th, 2010

Using vertical blinds is a great way to decorate your house. They will make your home look cozy and modernized. They are often used with sliding doors and windows. Another main purpose of the window blinds is to let you adjust light amount allowed into a room. Typical window blinds are made up of three components:

The header is part that is installed horizontally from the top frame of the window.

The slats hang vertically off the header. These slats are made of the following material: fabric, plastic, and wood. When properly adjusted, the slats will open or close to allow the amount of light into the room.

The slats are attached to the header with many clips.

After having used the blinds for some time, they tend to be broken in the areas you use most often. It will save you lots of money if you know how to fix these damages.

First thing first, you have to examine to see which section of the window blinds is damaged. When you use plastic blinds, this section is usually the point the slats and the clip meet. Sometimes, the clip itself is broken.

Fabric slats tend to break where they are attached to the clip. And in some cases the small piece of plastic or wood located at the bottom of the slat can come apart.

Sometimes, the problem lies in the header itself. If the head tail is damaged, the slat will no longer function properly. After you have figured out what the problem is, you can begin fixing it.

In case the vane is broken, you will have to replace it. The process is very quick and easy. You just have to go out and buy a replacement and install on clip. This can entirely be done by hand; no special equipment is needed. However, if the clip needs to be tightened, you can use a screwdriver to apply pressure to it. When you do so, remember to be gentle so as not to damage it.

If you are using a fabric vane, there may be torn portions after long time use. In this case, a needle and thread is enough to fix it. If the part near the conjunction between the vane and the clip is torn, the vane will drop. To amend this, you can use a small portion near the rear of the slat and glue it onto the torn part.

Replacing the clips is also very simple. For most cases, you have to change the entire clip; however if only a portion of it is damaged, then you just have to replace that part. For the first step, you need to remove the old clip. This can be done very quickly. Now you just have to insert a new clip and ensure that when the slat is attached, it is all facing the same direction as the other slats.

If there header is broken, the problem will not very easily resolved. You must first check to see whether the vertical blinds are still under warranty before doing any repair work. The only component of the header that can be repaired at home is the chain. You have to change the worn chain with a new one to repair it. If other components such as the holder or the veins of the header are damaged, you should hire a professional to do the job.
